Deacon @ 03:32 pm
Today, I had a talk with the pastor of my church, a quick orientation for those of us who have never served as a Deacon before. I got three books, one of them a daily prayer book focusing on missions works, one of them the seven creeds the presbyterian church uses, and the third is the Codes of Order, i.e. the rules on how everything works, spelled out nice and neat in lawyerease.
Turns out once I'm ordained, I'm a deacon for life. All that changes is weither I'm in active service or a period of rest. Mom made the analogy of getting married, except I get to see fewer naked people. I pointed out I may end up on the committee that visits sick congregation members when they're hospitalized. She said hospital gowns don't count.
This is a rather big step. I'm becoming one of the hands the church uses to do good works with, and taking a leadership position. I was nominated in a committee, then my name was put up for a vote as to weither or not I should become this. When God calls your name that loudly, it's time to answer, ya know? The other members of my church are trusting me to do this job well, or, at least not to screw up too badly.
What am I getting myself into? @_@
